The Cost of Care

If you have never needed care or support before, then it can be confusing and even overwhelming trying to choose a care provider, understand the costs and decide how best to pay for your care.

At Sirius, we operate a clear pricing policy as we know how important this is to our clients – allowing them to plan ahead and budget more easily.

We’re here to help – give us a call and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Example Costs of Care

Whilst each care package is priced individually, we know that people like to have an idea of price before they call us – so here are a few examples of what you can expect for different budgets.

With a weekly care budget of no more than £60, you or your loved one could benefit from our companionship and home help service, providing regular company, reassurance and support.

A member of our team can visit two or three times a week (depending on the duration of those visits), checking on your welfare and offering practical support and companionship.

Lots of our clients start with a small amount of support each week, and from there we can build a lasting and meaningful relationship.

Case Study – Jean B

74-year-old Jean moved to Hull to be nearer her daughter and grandchildren when her partner passed away, but she knew no-one other than her family and was lonely when they were at work.

Solution: Twice a week our team visits Jean, does her shopping and helps her get organised as well as arranging a video call with her son and his family so she can keep in touch. They also keep an eye on whether she has taken her medication, and help her change her bedding. For the family, our team provides much-needed companionship for their Mum, and reassurance for them.

“It’s lovely knowing Mum is happy and still having support from her carers – she loves telling us what they’ve been chatting about and she absolutely loves the video calls!”

With a weekly budget of up to £350, you could benefit from our home care service. The cost will vary depending on the type of support required, as well as the frequency and duration of the visits.

However, this budget could provide one or two visits every day of the week, involving personal care or companionship and home help, or both. Personal care includes services such as assistance with washing, dressing, continence care and administering medication. Maybe you’d like a short daily morning and evening visit and then a longer visit at off-peak times during the day.

Our care plans are entirely bespoke and flexible to add support whenever you need it – you can call us at any time to discuss your options.

Case Study: Roy K

Roy is 83 and lives alone. He has a large family, but they live in Scotland so only visit a few times a year. His eyesight has deteriorated and so he can no longer drive, and though he has always liked a clean and tidy house he now struggles to keep up with his housework.

Solution: A Sirius carer comes to visit Roy four times a week. They accompany him to his weekly bridge club, so he can catch up with old friends. He also helps Roy do his weekly shop, and takes him to a clinic he attends at the Doctor’s surgery. Back at home they have a cup of tea together and set the world to rights, before the carer gets to work hoovering and cleaning the kitchen and bathroom in Roy’s bungalow. Roy also has access to a 24/7 on-call service, as well as having a direct line to our Care Manager if he ever needs to talk.

“When I lost my driving licence I was really down – I thought I’d lose touch with my friends and just be stuck in this house. Richard (Roy’s carer) has been a godsend and we get on really well – he’s a real friend to me.”

If you need a comprehensive daily home care service, you’ll need to budget between £400 and £650 a week. Your care plan will be tailored to your individual needs and preferences, and will enable you or your loved one to continue living independently, safely and happily at home.

This budget range will mean you can choose between two and four personal care visits each day, as well as some longer visits to provide additional support and companionship.

This type of plan also provides the whole family with comfort and reassurance, knowing that the Sirius care team are making sure their loved one is eating, drinking, taking medication and being checked on regularly.

Case Study: Patricia S

79-year-old Patricia lives alone in a large house in Cottingham. Her only daughter drops in regularly through the week, but Patricia now needs hands-on support in the mornings, lunchtimes and evenings.

Solution: A carer visits Patricia each morning, helping her out of bed and getting dressed. She then makes breakfast and asks what she would like for lunch and dinner. She pops back at lunchtime to help with cooking and the prep for dinner, and then returns to help with her bedtime routine, including oral healthcare. Patricia also needs support with bathing and requires continence care. Whilst Patricia needs this practical support, it’s really far more than that.

“The Sirius girls are like part of my family now – I love their company, nothing is too much trouble and they keep me smiling.” says Patricia.

For our live-in care service, you will need to budget a minimum of £1595 per week. Each care package is designed specifically around you and your needs – you can find out more by visiting our Live-In Care page.

Case study: Tom R
Tom is a proud ex-military man, Hullensian born and bred, who has needed progressively more day-to-day care over the last few years. At 83, he is still mentally agile, very sociable, and loves watching Newsnight. Until a few years ago he lived with his brother, but since he passed away Tom has been very lonely. Not wanting to lose the house that he’d worked so hard for all his life, he decided to try live-in care rather than move into a residential home.

Solution: After a couple of ‘get-to-know you’ meetings Sophie moved into Tom’s spare room, and her cheerful company has made a huge difference to his overall wellbeing. Sophie helps him with his morning and night time routines, reads his favourite Michael Connelly novels aloud to him, and accompanies him to his weekly local film club. She makes sure he takes his blood pressure and diabetes medication on time each day and helps him do some light exercise – something that’s important to Tom. She also does his weekly food shop and cooks healthy meals for the two of them to enjoy, as well as taking care of all the housework and household admin. When Tom sometimes wakes in the night and needs some assistance, Sophie is on hand to help and reassure him.

Clear pricing policy

At Sirius, we pride ourselves on our clear pricing, as we know how much our clients value this approach.

  • No hidden or extra charges – you’ll pay only what we quote
  • Your charge rate will remain the same 7 days a week – this is very different to the majority of homecare providers, who often charge double on weekends.
  • Bank Holidays, Xmas Eve after 6pm and NYE after 6pm are charged at 1.5 x the standard rate
  • Xmas Day is charged at 2 x standard rate

The cost of care will depend on the type of support required, as well as the frequency and duration of the visits. From weekly companionship visits to multiple daily drop-ins for those who require more frequent assistance, our visiting home care service is flexible to suit a variety of needs, circumstances and budgets.

Following an initial telephone discussion about your needs, we’ll arrange a home visit to discuss your individual requirements and preferences in detail, and then provide you with a quote for your own bespoke care package.
